Sacred Art Museum

Pinos

In the central street of 16 de septiembre you will find one of the most visited sites. Right in the basement of La Parroquia de San Matías (St. Matthias' Parish Church) is El Museo de Arte Sacro de Pinos (Pinos Sacred Art Museum), whose construction dates back to the 18th century although it was remodeled by the architect Carlos Augusto Torres Pérez and reopened to the public as a museum site in 2003.

Among the most impressive relics on display are several oil paintings by renowned 18th century artists such as “Virgen de la Luz” by Gabriel José de Ovalle, Francisco Martínez and Miguel Cabrera, as well as a Latin missal made in the 17th century.

Although, without a doubt, the one that calls the attention of its most curious visitors, although somewhat disturbing, is the figure of El Cristo del Corazón Flotante (Christ of the Floating Heart), since it was carved in wood but has inlays of human bones and a hole through which its heart can be seen.

If you decide to visit it, it is important to take into account that it only opens its doors during the Holy Week and vacation periods.
