Nochistlán de Mejía means “Place of tuna”, referring to the surrounding hills covered with cactus trees.

One of these mounds is Cerro Tuiche and can be explored with the mountain bike tours organized from the municipal seat of the Magical Town.

In the past, the hill was inhabited by the Caxcan ethnic group, formed by groups of semi-nomadic people that settled in the south of Zacatecas.

As a witness to their passage, the Caxcans left petroglyphs symbolizing their rituals towards the sun, because the hill was adopted as a ceremonial center.
