Cabañas Oratory

Nochistlán de Mejía

For those who like religious tourism, it is worthwhile to take a trip from El Pueblo Mágico de Nochistlán (The Magical Town of Nochistlán) to the community of La Estancia de los Delgadillo, separated by only 13 kilometers ( 8 miles).

The legend says that in 1824, Bishop Juan Cruz Ruiz de Cabañas traveled through the northern area of his diocese in a delicate health condition. The long pilgrimage ended up deteriorating him and he died when he arrived at La Estancia de los Delgadillo.

The inhabitants prepared the body of the bishop to send it to Guadalajara, this included removing his entrails, which the community preserved and protected in a small oratory that it raised in his honor: El Oratorio Cabañas (The Cabañas Oratory). On one side, you can admire a quarry temple dedicated to Jesus of Nazareth.
