Sierra de Cardos (Cardos Range)

Jerez de García Salinas

This valley is part of the Sierra Madre Occidental and is located half an hour from the Pueblo Mágico de Jerez (Magical Town of Jerez). The fame of Sierra de Cardos is due to its whimsical rock formations that exceed 200 metres (656 feet) in height where the huizaches, oaks and thistles that paint the land in purple tones bloom in April.

Tunnels have been formed between the cliffs and exploring them on foot or by bicycle is one of the many activities offered by the El Manantial ecotourism center. In order to give it some excitement, hanging bridges and a zip line circuit have been installed which, when crossed, allow visitors to observe the entire valley.

Fans of climbing and rappelling will find perfect vertical walls and cylindrical columns of natural stone. Therefore, each formation of Sierra de Cardos becomes a different challenge to climb and descend with harnesses.

On the other hand, there are fauna observation walks, the site is inhabited by wild boars and wild turkeys. It is also possible to camp or sleep in one of the seven cabins that were built within the ecotourism center, one of which, the largest, has a pool with spring water.

To reach the Sierra de Cardos, you must leave Jerez on the road to Fresnillo and follow the turnoff to the El Cargadero community.
