Ramón López Velarde Home and Interactive Museum

Jerez de García Salinas

De la Parroquia 33 is the address of the house where the Zacatecan poet, Ramón López Velarde, was born and grew up on June 15, 1888. Today, the site is integrated into the heritage and museums of Jerez and is a must when travelling to this Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town).

The museum is distributed throughout the original spaces of the house: five rooms, living room, kitchen and a large courtyard with a well. During the visit, you can see the furniture that decorated the author's room, as well as photographs of his family. A special detail are the pencil drawings of outstanding figures from Zacatecas, made by the painter Ernesto Juarez.

While touring around, it is discovered that the museum is interactive, since as you enter each room you can hear stories about the life of Ramón López Velarde and perceive some aromas, which served as a source of inspiration for his verses.

One of the areas that attracts most attention is the library, with original manuscripts of the poet during his law studies and essays about his life, while listening to recordings of some poems, narrated by López Velarde himself. In some months of the year, the museum holds readings of his works, concerts and exhibitions.
