Inaugurated in 2012, The Great Museum of the Mayan World (Gran Museo del Mundo Maya) in Merida became a cultural space considered as one of the most important in Latin America due to its repertory. The walls of this museum keep over a thousand pieces that reflect the life of Mayan culture, on both pre-Hispanic times and present time.

Among its pieces, outstands invaluable engravings and historic documents, many of them dating from the pre-Hispanic times, and have been preserved thanks to the intervention of archaeology experts. Right in front of you, there will be authentic ceramic tributes, as well as golden and jade jewelry, that you will not find in other place.

Just like the most modern museums, this site combines cultural heritage with new technologies, by bringing up interactive facilities to the public, who experiences time travelling with the help of digital systems and who learn through a friendly environment, easy to understand and the staff is always available for help you with your doubts.

Its four permanent exhibitions, will take you to traverse the region through the archeology, anthropology, history and customs of the Mayan world. The museum is open to the public from Wednesday to Monday, from 9 h to 14:30 h. Plan your visit!
