Xico

The Parroquia de Santa María Magdalena (Parish of Santa María Magdalena) is one of the most important sites in Xico. It’s a 16th century temple in whose facade coexist two architecture styles—Baroque and Neoclassical.

Cross the gates of the parish to go to the Museo del Vestido (Dress Museum), where you will see an over 800 dresses collection that the congregation have donated to dress the Saint Patron of the town.

The Plaza de los Portales (Archway’s Plaza) is located right in the center of the city. It’s a 17th century historical monument on whose walls are inscribed data and passages from the history of Mexico. Another place that you should not miss is the Monasterio Benedictino (Benedictine Monastery), whose Italian architecture makes it the only one of its kind in all of Veracruz.

10 minutes away from the Historic Downtown you can visit the vestiges of the former Hacienda de Palzoquiapan, looted and abandoned since 1930. Do not forget to stop by the Capilla del Llanito ( Del Llanito’s Chapel) to visit the Santo Niño Milagroso (Miraculous Holy Child), who is reputed to be very kind to those who ask him for favors.
