Huamantla

Besides being the heart of the celebrations of the Virgen de la Caridad, the Historical Center de Huamantla (Historical Center of Huamantla) preserves architectural works and museums that speak to us of the essence of this Magical Town.

Although the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad is one of the most popular religious temples in Huamantla; you should also take a look at the Parroquia de San Luis Obispo (Parish Church of San Luis Obispo built in the 16th century by the Franciscan order, its facade is made of stones from the area of La Malinche and inside there is still an altarpiece in the Churrigueresque style. The touch of the natives who built it is still present in the details of angels and fruits that can still be seen on the outside.

The Museo Nacional del Títere (National Puppet Museum) is a must for visitors. It houses the collection of puppets and dolls of the Rosete Aranda brothers, who founded one of the most important puppet companies in Latin America during the 19th century. There are also pieces from countries like Germany, Spain, France, Italy and India.

Such is the importance of these brothers that, every year, Huamantla is the venue of the Festival Internacional de Títeres Rosete Aranda (Rosete Aranda International Puppet Festival).
