Banana haciendas

Teapa

There isn't a better way to get into Teapa’s culture and history than touring for its banana haciendas, lost among the surrounding rich vegetation.

Walking through the area, you’ll be able to better understand the so-called “green gold” cultivation and commercialization process, this Tabasco city’s emblematic fruit because of the importation quality achieved in their lands.

The first point that you can explore is a banana farm bought by Juan With in 1981, but that by 1986 became part of the University of Chapingo research center Zatpingo Agribusiness Unit. This 60 hectares site has 50 hectares focused on planting and researching the “giant dwarf” banana.

In addition to knowing the cultivation and harvesting process, tourists will also understand the bananas economic and social importance for Teapa settlers.
