Morúa Estuary

Puerto Peñasco

36 kilometers from Puerto Peñasco, there is a landscape where freshwater merges with the sea to create Morúa estuary. It’s the place to visit if you want to be surrounded by birds, to row a kayak or sail in a boat, through channels covered by water that changes its hue depending on the position of the sun and depth; with turquoise, deep blue or simply translucent reflections.

In more than one thousand hectares, giant sand dunes are also admired. You can slide on them as if they were toboggans.

After a relaxed walk, you should learn about the history of Cooperativa Única Mujeres, the first oyster farm that was created in Sonora. Currently, the state has other farms dedicated to the cultivation of oysters.

The cooperative is run by women from the region and has been showing travelers their work for more than 30 years, which ranges from the cultivation of oysters to their preparation in different dishes that you taste within the Morúa estuary. For this, was installed El Barco restaurant, whose menu includes ceviche tostadas, oysters in the shell and stingray quesadillas.
