From all the Magic Towns hidden throughout the Mexican Republic, there is one that stands out for the architectural beauty of its Colonial buildings, we are talking about Mocorito in Sinaloa. In this place, which is sometimes called “Athenas”, not only the facades of the buildings stand out, but also its different places full of historic and cultural interest as well as its well preserved traditions.

This town was the first Spanish settlement in the norwest of the country, this because its weather is usually warm. Don’t lose the chance of walking its streets, you will find at least 80 casonas and monuments with a high historical value.

One of its jewels is without a doubt the Temple of the Purisima Concepcion built in 1594 and which preserves more than 14 engravings from the XVI century that represents different stages of the Via Crucis.

Don’t lose the chance of visiting the Plazuela de los Tres Grandes, this place is an homage to Agustina Ramírez, Eustaqui Buelna y Rafael Buelna Tenorio, three outstanding Mocoritenses.

In this same plaza you can try the famous Mocorito or chilorio. Visit this traditional factory of Napo where you will learn step by step the handcraft process for creating this stew that is made with pork, chili, garlic and different species.

Another place you need to visit is the Plaza Rafael Buelna, here you will find the “Mocorito Ateneo Sinaloense” wall that is done using tiny mosaics that reveals the history of this municipality.
