Great part of the history of El Fuerte is concentrated in its archeological site named Cerro de la Mascara. Here you will be able to see petroglyphs like la Zorra, la Reina y el Observatorio.

The construction of the Piedra Enterrada stands out for its geometrical shapes.

Among the undergrowth and the saguaro it is possible to see the steals that were engraved by hand 2,500 years ago by the Mayos. This site, in comparison to the others, is not embed in only one space, but rather extended throughout the hill. Bear in mind that this trip is going to be out of the ordinary.

The figure of the coyote is constant throughout the stones, it is an important symbol of the Mayos and is related to migration and travel. On the other hand if you spot a fox this means that the mayos found the perfect spot to settle down.

Throughout the Cerro de la Máscara you will find ancient plants that have covered the zone from immemorial times. Once, this plants were used as remedies by the mayos. Their knowledge in medicine was important and keeps being practiced by the Mayos of today.

For getting here, you must cross a hanging bridge from La Galera or make a car ride of about 10 minutes from the Historic Center of the Magical Town of El Fuerte.
