Copala

If you want to know more about the history of the mines in the zone, you should visit the Museum of Mining of Copala. This building, from the XVIII century, better known as Casa de Piedra, used to work as a cellar for gold and silver thanks to the prosperity during The Colony. Later it works as a prison.

Its heritage includes an important collection of objects that belonged to the mines La Colorada, La Trinidad, La Candelaria and Santa Ana.

Inside this enclosure you will see a great array of artifacts related to the miner activity, there are also archaeological pieces and objects from everyday life during The Colony and weapons from The Revolution.

Another museum you should visit is the Sacro Museum, located inside the San José church and inaugurated in the year 2010. This exhibition is composed of pieces of religious art in silver, like the sculpture of Saint Barbara, who was beheaded by her father in the III century BC. Here in Copala, Saint Barbara is the protectress of the storms.
