A must see in Puerto Morelos is the Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín Botanical Garden, also called Yaax'Ché, which is located two kilometers to the south. It is the largest in the country for its area of 65 hectares, of which 14 are dedicated to the conservation of local flora and fauna.
This garden was created in 1982 and belongs to El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (Ecosur). Its objective is to protect the biodiversity of the region. The main ecosystems that predominate are the mangrove swamp and the sub-evergreen forest.
During a tour of its trails you will be able to observe plants of the region, ornamental, medicinal, cacti, ferns and epiphytes.
It also has a chiclero camp, a small archaeological zone and a suspension bridge from where you will observe the mangroves.
