Don Benito Herrera was the owner of the lands in which he discovered the Grutas Los Herrera. These caves are one of the main attractions of San Joaquín and were entirely explored in 1978 by the American speleologists Roy Jameson and Paty Mottes.

It is located just 2 kilometers and a half form the town, the grutas or caves are unique in the Querétaro state, they are completely set up for receiving visitors and its guided tours last about half an hour.

The halls from the big cave are filled with stalactites and stalagmites with different shapes that goes from representing animals to a “diamond waterfall” this effect is caused by the brilliance of the minerals and is one of the most enjoyed attractions by the visitors

Just a little far in distance, about 5 kilometers from downtown, the town of Cadereyta de Montes is located. Here you will find more caves, but it's a little harder to access to them. You can go to Grutas La Esperanza. To get here a guide will lead you through a forest where you’ll find a tiny entrance and a spiral stair, soon you’ll find the beautiful underground galleries.
