Museum of Mineralogy

Tehuacán

This place is dedicated to the doctor Miguel Romero Sánchez, a Mexican scientist that dedicated most of his life to collecting minerals and to its study. In this respect, he discovered two species: malpimita and hojuelita. This feat gave him the international recognition of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington and lay the foundations to the opening of this museum.

Another interesting fact is that this Museum is unique in all Latin America, a very important achievement, not only for Puebla, but for the whole country.

The amazing collection has more than 10 thousand mineral pieces, however, it only displays 400, this in order not to saturate the visitors. You will find rocks, fossils and even meteorite fragments.

The collection is well organized and explained; the pieces are just absolutely fabulous. The pieces are contained inside glass display cases so you will be able to see them at every angle, without losing one single detail.

Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. It is located inside the Ex Convent “El Carmen”.
