10 kilometers away from Huauchinango, you can find the Necaxa dam, considered a prodigy of the Porfirian modernity, because, in its beginnings, it was the most powerful hydroelectric plant in the world, back in 1905. Today, only a few turbines remain encased in the river gorge and the powerhouse, which can be seen from a viewpoint.

The Necaxa dam is enjoyed with a boat ride, to admire the oak and cedar forests that surround it. Some take the opportunity to fish for trout and mojarras, which are then cooked on the grill area or in one of the restaurants that are located on the banks. There is also a hotel in case you want to spend the night.

A kilometer and a half away is the Tenango de las Flores dam, by taking a boat or a sailboat. It has areas for camping and hiking to see the growth of azaleas and orchids. By the way, Tenango is recognized for the cultivation of flowers and coffee plantations. So you can visit a “tianguis” (small flea market) to take home, hydrangeas, tulias, violets, gardenias and ornamental plants.

En las orillas de la presa hay restaurantes de comida típica como los tamales de puñete. Además, se ofrecen tours a los escenarios donde se filmó la película Tizoc, amor indio.

On the banks of the dam there are restaurants serving typical food, such as “tamales de puñete”( a Tamal with the shape of a fist). In addition, tours are offered to the locations where the movie Tizoc: Amor Indio was filmed.
