Yucundaa

Teposcolula

Yucundaa, also known as the “ Pueblo Viejo de Teposcolula” (“Old Town of Teposcolula”), was for hundreds of years the place where the inhabitants developed their lives until the middle of the 16th century when the Spaniards arrived and the history of the town changed radically.

History tells that besides the modernization that arrived with the Conquest and the evangelization that began with the Dominicans, the Spaniards introduced diseases that didn't exist in Mexico, such as salmonella, which took the natives by surprise and caused massive and unexplained deaths for those years.

Being a people whose beliefs were closely linked to nature, they concluded that the hill was the one that was sick, that's how they moved to the current Teposcolula and in 1549 the foundation of this now Pueblo Mágico began.

You will visit the home of different rulers who exercised their mandate during the splendor of the Mixtecans, but you will also enjoy the views offered by the high Mixteca towards the current town, from there the past has not been silenced but remains serene and peaceful.

In this post-classical site, you will find the ball game, the residential complex of the elites, and the terraces for the rest of its inhabitants.
