El Alarcón

Teposcolula

The Colony was barely inhabited and the town of Teposcolula already had a fairly sophisticated water conveyance system for the time. This gave rise to a network of strategically placed ponds so that the inhabitants could have access to the liquid and no one would worry about the water supply.

El Alarcón, a distribution structure built in stone, remains as a witness to those years. It also seems that this structure pointed very well to a sustainable future since its system went beyond supply and was responsible for capturing the water used so that it could be recycled so that the waste would be minimal.

There are still nine water sources that travel through rock channels that are concentrated in a kind of cistern. The water tank initially started from Yucundaa and its kilometer-long path was the beginning of an important aqueduct.

Visiting the place will surprise you, because you will see that the engineering of centuries ago has nothing to envy to the modern systems, maybe they didn't have all the current technology but there was a lot of ingenuity and their mathematical calculations were great allies.
