One of the towns surrounding Capulálpam de Méndez is Guelatao, the cradle of the Benemérito de las Américas, the ex-president Benito Juárez García.

As part of the town's historical attractions, the Museo Crónica de la Obra de Juárez (Juarez's Chronicles Museum) was created with personal clothing, documents, photographs, and a miniature of the carriage used by the ex-president to travel around the country. You can also visit the public library where the house Juarez lived during his childhood was replicated, together with his mother, Brigida Garcia.

Another must-see is the Guelatao Lagoon where, according to oral records, Benito Juarez used to take his sheep to graze. Around the water source, there are lush gardens with juniper trees.
