Cañón de Jaures (Jaures Canyon)

Linares

Very close to the municipal seat of Linares is el Cañón de Jaures, a place that you must explore during your trip to get into the great mountains that surround it.

To get there you must travel about 28 kilometers (17 miles) to the southwest, along the state highway 31 Linares-San Roberto.

To walk through el Cañón de Jaures is to enter a walled kingdom hidden among the heights since it consists of enormous vertical walls of limestone rock dotted with bushes where the highest parts become forests of pine and oak.

Along the way, you will be able to see the red-tailed hawks, who emit their particular call at the top of the peaks.

Downstream is the Volcancito cave, which is flooded at the foot of the slope of the hill and where, in the rainy season, water comes out in a similar way to the lava of a volcano.
