San Blas

Five minutes from San Blas' square, you can walk to El Borrego beach. It has an extension of three kilometers ( 2 miles ) and is flanked by the tips of the El Pozo and San Cristobal estuaries. Its swell is soft but, at times, you can dominate some waves on a surfboard.

Walking or riding a horse to tour the beach from one end to the other is ideal. There is no lack of local gastronomy such as zarandeado and tatemado fish. It is also the favorite place of the locals to watch the sunset.

Seven kilometers ( 4.5 miles ) south of San Blas is Bahia de Matanchen, which opens to the sea as a natural protection for boats.

It used to be a refuge for pirates and buccaneers, so, what to do?, just enjoy the tranquility of its virgin beaches: Santa Cruz, Miramar, Los Cocos, Aticama, Matanchen, and Las Islitas. The latter has the record of the longest wave in the world, making it a favorite among surfers. The palm trees are the best place to lie down on a hammock and feel the sea breeze.

Continuing towards the south you will reach Punta Custodio. It is a paradise formed by the Tortugas beach, the view doesn't give credit when, after walking a short path, the vegetation opens up and suddenly hundreds of perfectly aligned palm trees appear among high rocks, the mouth of an estuary and the immensity of the sea. It is possible to ride a kayak and, in summer, see the arrival of sea turtles that come to lay their eggs.

On the other side of Punta Custodio, Platanitos beach opens up. It is a typical fishermen's village that offers fresh oysters from the sea to eat on the sand. Its waters allow you to hunt waves on boogie boards.
