Compostela de Indias

Compostela de Indias was born from the influence of the Spaniards that founded and inhabited this town from the beginning. Its most representative symbol is the Santiago Apostol Parish, whose patron is the Lord of Mercy.

This temple was built around the XV century and Pope Paul III ordered that in this place the Bishopric of Compostela was erected. The Parish is made of stone and inside you will find a simple structure. It is located in the center of the main plaza of this Magic Town, so you can take a rest in one of the benches while you listen to the sound of bells coming from the church.

Make some space on your itinerary for visiting the Ex Hacienda of the Miravalles Countess, considered one of the most important haciendas in the region during the XVII and XVIII centuries. You can still imagine how this place used to look like in its heyday, this because the kitchen and some cellars are still in perfect conditions.

You will find a little museum in this Magic Town. Here you will be able to see a beautiful collection of Prehispanic objects. Through elements and objects of different ages, The Compostela Museum will teach you how life was in Nueva Galicia during the years of 1540 to 1560.

Due to its closeness to Jalisco there used to be a railway that communicated Guadalajara with Sonora 's south border. You can visit these vestiges and learn why during the beginning of the XX century this was an important place for marchandise transportation.
