Bucerías Bay

Bucerías

The most popular bay among tourists is Bucerías, which along its 8 km (18 miles) and calm waves invites you to take a dip. In addition, there are those who entertain themselves by participating in the sand figure competitions that are organized with spectacular sculptures that your eyes will not believe are made of sun, sand and water.

Families are attracted because it is a reliable beach since its depth is gradual, so you can go into the sea and still it will reach your waist, a peculiarity that surprises many of the swimmers.

There are those who only enjoy the different water activities such as surfing or fishing, while others dare to walk or ride their bikes looking for the statue of “El buzo” (the diver) on the boardwalk, a bronze sculpture that has become an icon of the town founded by families of fishermen and divers more than 50 years ago.

If you consider yourself a night person, we recommend you book your trip between the months of August and December, since that's when Bucerías' best kept secret is revealed: its beach and water seem to be enchanted by some kind of mermaid spell, since its silver or electric blue waters illuminate the sand with fluorescent flashes; we are talking about bioluminescence, this bay is one of the few in Mexico where you can admire this phenomenon caused by a biochemical reaction of the algae present in the sea.
