Teopanzolco archaeological site

Cuernavaca

Few minutes away from the Historical Center, in the Vista Hermosa neighborhood, you can visit the Zona Arqueológica de Teopanzolco (Teopanzolco Archaeological Zone), which in Náhuatl means “place of the old temple”. This settlement originally would have been inhabited by Tlahuicas and later by Mexicas.

This two hectares (4.9 acres) and 14 buildings site is relatively small and can be covered in about an hour.

The main building, to which it’s possible to go up, had in its upper part two temples—one dedicated to the god of water and fertility, Tláloc, and one to the god of sun and war, Huitzilopochtli.
