Robert Brady Museum

Cuernavaca

Born in Iowa, United States, Robert Brady was a plastic artist and collector who traveled around the world looking for art works for his private collection. After living for six years in Venice, Italy, Brady settled permanently in Cuernavaca in 1962.

By then he bought the Casa de la Torre (The house with a tower), which had originally been conceived as a Franciscan order religious enclosure and then remodeled as an astronomical observatory. Brady remodeled the building to function as his last residence and to house his very personal and varied collection of art from around the world.

After his death, the peculiar house was adapted as a museum to display publicly the collection that includes works by Rufino Tamayo, Marsden Hartley, Frida Kahlo, Maurice Prendergast, Miguel Covarrubias and Brady’s own creations.

The collection also includes Mesoamerican and African figures, Murano glass bottles, masks, tapestries and a large number of objects that Brady arranged with his own speech. Without a doubt, this is an essential tour for sensitive souls and art lovers.
