Fatima's Temple

Tacámbaro

With a modern construction, the interior of the Templo de Fátima en Tacámbaro (Fatima's Temple) in Tacámbaro, Michoacán, hides incredible treasures inside. As you enter, you will be dazzled by the beauty of its Gothic style stained glass windows, but the attention is usually focused on the images of the virgin refugees that were sent from four different countries: Poland, Hungary, Lithuania and Cuba as a way to “rescue” them from their destruction when the Catholic religion was persecuted in those nations.

Continue your journey to the basement to walk down the narrow stone corridor that replicates the Santo Sepulcro (Holy Sepulchre) - originally located in Jerusalem - which is unique in America. In the background, you can admire a representation of the moment when Jesus Christ was praying in the garden, as well as images and oil paintings from the 19th century.

Before leaving the site, on one side of the exterior of the church is the monument of Mártires de Cristo (Martyrs of Christ) made of quarry. Finally, head to the sanctuary's staircase, which offers one of the best views of Michoacán's Tierra Caliente valley.
