On the outskirts of Sahuayo there is a system of giant caves that served as a refuge for the cristeros. One of them is the Barranca del Convento, bathed by waterfalls that form the current of a river. Walking among streams and climbing the stones is part of the expedition.
Here you can also find the Cueva de Espinoza (Espinoza Cave) which, due to its height, the martyrs used as a lookout point. At one side, in the Cueva de los Pisos (Cave of Floors), there is a hole in the center where they used to escape.
