Pátzcuaro

Facing the San Francisco temple, this square of the same name holds a fountain in the center that really stands out, surrounded by gardens and various shops that, on weekends, place their products in a market right on that area.

Some of the souvenirs that you can find are handicrafts, sweets and jewelry, so if you want to acquire unique and handmade pieces, this is the place to visit and, at the same time, you will also be supporting the local economy.

Originally, tback in 1576, this construction was used as an Augustinian Convent. Nowdays, although it retains its original architecture, its functions have changed and it operates as the “Gertrudis Bocanegra” Public Library.

Inside you can see the mural of Juan O 'Gorman, where the visual artist captured the most important events in Michoacán history, as well as the role played by Bishop Vasco de Quiroga or “Tata Vasco” in the defense of their indigenous communities.
