Cuitzeo del Porvenir

Michoacán

Cuitzeo del Porvenir is located 35 minutes from Morelia (34 km / 21 miles). With a warm climate during the day but with cold nights and cold mornings, this town reserves charming places that you will like to discover during any time of the year.

On the north shore of the lake of Cuitzeo, Purepechas settled initially. With the arrival of the Augustinians there, a convent was built to evangelize the region.

Through the years the region was transformed but resisted giving up its Purepecha heritage, so today Cuitzeo del Porvenir is a mix of ancestral and colonial tradition that translates into a charming destination that is part of the Pueblos Magicos (Magical Towns) of the State of Michoacán.

The magic starts from the road, the moment you go from Morelia to the town. What begins as a car journey suddenly becomes a navigation, because almost without realizing it, it will seem that you have boarded a boat.

On both sides of the road, the lake imposes itself with its beauty and the glare of the sun on its waters combines with the lilies that grow on its shores while, in the distance, the figure of a town awaits to show you the best it has.

Once you have arrived, you will find yourself before a town that speaks two languages: Tarasco and Spanish.

Its magnificence is not only visible in its religious and ceremonial centers, but also in its markets, squares and streets where the smell of corundas invades and the promise of a delight is fulfilled when you take your first bite.

Life in Cuitzeo seems to pass at a different speed, as if the sun were asking the people for permission to light up little by little while it gives the people the guideline to begin the daily ritual, which is not an everyday occurrence.

In the kitchen it boils the coffee with cinnamon that inevitably wakes up any sleepy person, at the same time the roosters enter in wake up mode. In the distance, the clouds move aside and allow the wind to clear so that the deep blue of the sky announces the arrival of the day.
