The Flavors of Puebla Route

Atlixco, Puebla, Cholula, Chilpancingo

To begin this route, you will start at the city of Chilpancingo. You can learn about its importance throughout the history of Mexico in the Museo Regional de Guerrero (Guerrero Regional Museum). Take a stroll through its beautiful downtown area and admire the neoclassical-style Catedral de Santa María de la Asunción (Santa María de la Asunción Cathedral), one of the most important in the area and therefore one of the most visited. In its surroundings you will find the famous Grutas de Cacahuamilpa (Cacahuamilpa Grottoes) and the Grutas de Juxtlahuaca (Juxtlahuaca Grottoes) that you can also explore.

Now follow the course towards Cholula, Puebla. With beautiful views of the Popocatépetl volcano, here you can take light walks through the downtown area, and exciting visits to the Great Pyramid where you can also see its museum and the sanctuary. In Cholula you will find various dining options, as well as bars and nightclubs.

The final destination will be the colonial city of Puebla de Zaragoza. Tour its Historic Center and get to know the colonial-style buildings and the churches of Baroque architecture, as well as the Biblioteca Palafoxiana (Palafoxiana Library). Other places that you must visit are the Handicraft Market, Calle de los Dulces (Street of Sweets), El Callejón de los Sapos (Toad Alley) and the Barrio de los Artistas (Artists’ Quarter). Puebla has a well-known gastronomic tradition, do not leave without trying its famous mole poblano, chiles en nogada and cemitas.
