Route through the Deserts and Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) of Colima

Saltillo, Torreón, Viesca

The starting point of this route is the city of Saltillo, Coahuila. Get to know its Plaza de Armas (Arms Square), the scene of various battles during the North American invasion, visit the Catedral de Santiago (Santiago Cathedral), and admire the beautiful facades of the old casino and the Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace). Here you can buy typical local crafts such as beautiful sarapes.

Then follow the road to Parras de la Fuente in Coahuila. In this Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) where Francisco I. Madero, father of the Mexican Revolution, was born. Stroll through its historic streets, know the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Sanctuary) where the four images of the Virgin of Guadalupe made of tile stand out, and visit the Cave of the Bats, located at the back of the Antigua Hacienda del Perote (Old Perote Hacienda), here you can admire its water spring and if you dare, the more than 40,000 bats that inhabit it.

Continuing through the state of Coahuila, your next visit will be to the Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of Viesca. This is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert, where you can visit the Templo de Santiago Apóstol (Santiago Apóstol Temple) which also has a small interior museum, and the Capilla de Santa Ana (Chapel of Santa Ana) in the old Hacienda de Hornos. Try the burnt milk sweets or beautiful embroidered crafts.

Then, continue to the city of Matamoros. Get to know the cathedral, the Cueva del Tabaco (Tobacco Cave), the Reloj Público and walk through its main square.

The route ends in the city of Torreón, Coahuila. Stroll through the Plaza de Armas (Arms Square) that will take you to several museums that you can visit, such as La Moneda. A few steps away is also the Teatro Nazas (Nazas Theater) which has a unique art deco lobby. You cannot miss the Cristo de las Noas, you only have to climb 576 steps, each step is worth it, at the top you will take some wonderful photos.
