Route of the volcanoes and forests to the Temples of the Sun and the Moon

Huamantla, Xalapa, Teotihuacán, Ciudad Sahagún

Enjoy this incredible route that begins in Xalapa Veracruz. Visit the Catedral Metropolitana de la Inmaculada Concepción (Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception), which has some interesting secret catacombs that can be accessed.

In the Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of Huamantla you will discover the oldest constructions: the Temple and Ex-Convent of San Luis Obispo that dates from the year 1585. Take a tour of its pulque haciendas to make "el alacrán" (drop some pulque on the ground and it should make a scorpion figure, this means that its texture is just right) and live the unique experience of climbing the Volcán de la Malinche. Don't miss out on trying the delicious matuma mole.

Continue to Apizaco, where you will visit the Museo Casa de Piedra (Casa de Piedra Museum), a construction in which the railway workers used to stay. Other attractions are the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia (Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy) and the Palacio Municipal (Municipal Palace) with its murals.

Continue through Ciudad Sahagún and head to Calpulalpan, north of the Sierra Nevada. This is a very picturesque town surrounded by beautiful nature. Take a stroll downtown to see its monuments and historical buildings, among which the Parroquia de San Antonio de Padua (Parish of San Antonio de Padua) and the Capilla de la Tercera Orden (Chapel of the Third Order) stand out. Pulque is also produced here, so there are also tours of the haciendas.

The last destination on the route will be Teotihuacán. Be amazed by the majesty of the Pirámide del Sol and Pirámide de la Luna ( Sun and Moon pyramids) and the Templo de Quetzalcóatl (Quetzalcóatl’s Temple), walk along its ancient road and dare to climb to the top of the pyramids. The perfect ending for this trip.
