Route of the Cabrito to the Sierra Madre

Monterrey, Linares, Santiago

This route begins in the northern part of the country in the modern city of Monterrey. We recommend you start in the Old Quarter, visiting the Catedral Metropolitana (Metropolitan Cathedral), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Museum of Contemporary Art), the Museo Estatal de Culturas Populares (State Museum of Popular Cultures) and of course, the Macroplaza, where you can admire the Faro de Comercio (Lighthouse of Commerce) and the Fuente de la Vida (Fountain of Life).

Traveling thirty minutes southeast of Monterrey you will arrive in Santiago. This beautiful town located next to the Rodrigo Gómez dam is ideal for those who enjoy ecotourism. Here it is possible to practice fishing, take a boat ride or take one of the excursions to the surrounding waterfalls, pools and rivers.

Linares is located one hour and fifteen minutes southeast of Santiago. This Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) was of great importance during the colonial era due to its sugar cane production. We recommend you stroll through its Centro Histórico (Historic Center) and admire the Palacio Municipal (Municipal Palace), the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral de San Felipe Apóstol (Cathedral of San Felipe Apóstol) and the Museo Linares (Linares Museum). Do not leave here without trying the delicious tortas compuestas (a type of sandwich with beef stew, onion, salt and a bit of chili pepper) and the traditional Glorias (traditional sweets).

The tour ends in Ciudad Victoria, capital of the neighboring state of Tamaulipas. Walking through the center you can visit the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Refugio (Basilica of Our Lady of the Refuge), La Casa del Arte (The House of Arts), the Museo de Arqueología (Museum of Archeology) and the Plaza Hidalgo. If you go to the Santuario de Guadalupe (Shrine of Guadalupe), located on the Loma del Muerto, you will enjoy the best views of the city.
