Nature, Hot Springs, Water Park and Handcrafts Route

Atlixco, Cuernavaca, Huamantla, Xalapa, Tepoztlán, Cuautla, Oaxtepec

The route begins in the state of Veracruz, in the city of Xalapa. It has a great variety of museums and historical buildings to visit, such as the Catedral Metropolitana de la Inmaculada Concepción (Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception) and its secret catacombs.

In the Pueblo Mágico de Huamantla (Magical Town of Huamantla) you can walk downtown and visit the old convent of San Luis Obispo, it is a very old construction of great historical value dated at 1585. Do not leave without trying the “matuma” mole or acquiring beautiful clay handcrafts.

Continue the route towards the Pueblo Mágico de Atlixco (Magical Town of Atlixco) where you will stroll through the Plaza de la Concordia. Get to know Los Portales and eat deliciously, and then admire the wonderful architecture of San Gabriel Arcángel and the Capilla Real de Naturales.

The next destination will be Cuautla. Learn more about its history at the Museo Histórico del Oriente and then visit the Parroquia de Santiago Apóstol, a colonial gem. Oaxtepec is famous for its hot springs and water parks, so you cannot miss a dip in one of them. Visit the old convent of Santo Domingo, you will be surprised by its excellent state of conservation, there you will see the exhibition on the Olmec and Toltec cultures, since it is now a museum. Before leaving, try the delicious “sopa de flor de calabaza” (pumpkin flower soup).

In the Pueblo Mágico de Tepoztlán (Magical Town of Tepoztlán) you can learn from its past and also relax in the present. Climb the Tepozteco mount to visit the archaeological site on top and then head back to town where you can take a relaxing stroll through its cobbled streets. If you go to the market, try the exquisite “itacates”.

Cuernavaca is the city where this tour ends. Besides being a resting place, you will also find many cultural activities to do. We recommend you visit the Historic Center, especially the Jardín Juarez (Juarez Garden), to admire the kiosk designed by Gustave Eiffel.
