Mystical Mining Route

Real de Catorce, Zacatecas

"Enjoy the beauties of Zacatecas at the beginning of this route. This is where the pink quarry that we see in many of its buildings originates. Admire the city from the Cerro de la Bufa which you can access by a cable car. Stroll along its alleys and small squares and appreciate the neoclassical art of its museums, theaters and churches. Be amazed by the Huichol art and delight yourself with its gastronomy.

The next destination will be the Pueblo Mágico Real de Catorce (Magic Town of Real de Catorce). Originally it was a town where silver was extracted; when the boom of this metal descended, it was abandoned. It is part of the charm of the place: the stone walls and its dusty streets give it all the appearance of a ghost town. It can only be entered through the Tunel de Ogarrio (Ogarrio’s tunnel). Its main attractions are the Museo Parroquial Padre José Robledo (Padre José Robledo Parish Museum), the Antigua casa de Moneda (Old Coin Mint House), the Parroquia de la Purísima Concepción (Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception) and the cockfighting arena.
