Desert Exploration Route to the Metropolis

Monterrey, Linares, Santiago

Start your tour in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. Visit its beautiful downtown area and see the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Refugio (Nuestra Señora del Refugio Basilica), the Museo de Arqueología (Archeology Museum) and the Plaza Hidalgo (Hidalgo Square). Go up to the Santuario de Guadalupe (Guadalupe Sanctuary) located on the Loma del Muerto, to admire the city from above.

Now continue to the Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of Linares, which had its great boom back in colonial times due to the vast production of sugar cane. We recommend visiting the Palacio Municipal (Municipal Palace), the Catedral de San Felipe Apóstol (San Felipe Apóstol Cathedral) and the Museo Linares (Linares Museum). Before you go, try the tortas compuestas.

The next stop will be Montemorelos, an important orange producer, here you will find delicacies made with this fruit. You can also visit its main attractions, such as the Templo del Sagrado Corazón (Sagrado Corazón Temple) and the monument dedicated to Don José María Morelos y Pavón.

If you love ecotourism, the town of Santiago is the right spot for you. It is located next to the Rodrigo Gómez dam where you can take a boat ride or fish. It is also possible to take trips to the surrounding waterfalls and rivers.

End the trip in Monterrey, where you cannot miss out on the Barrio Antiguo (Old Quarter), the Macroplaza, the Catedral Metropolitana (Metropolitan Cathedral), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Museum of Contemporary Art), and the Estatal de Culturas Populares.
