Tuxtla Gutiérrez

This route is special if you love nature and the prehispanic roots of Mexico, it begins at the beautiful Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. Get to know the beautiful natural landscapes that surround it, such as the Cañón del Sumidero (Sumidero Canyon) or go caving, and if you love adrenaline go paragliding . Here you can also spend the afternoon at the kiosk in its main square where there are constant cultural activities, and get to know the Catedral de San Marcos (Cathedral of San Marcos), built in 1560 and in whose atrium you can enjoy a multimedia projection every night.

Afterwards, continue towards El Malpasito in Tabasco, which owes its name to the irregular terrain where it is located. Patio Sur (The Southern Patio), the Plaza Principal (Main Square) and the Juego de Pelota (Ball Court) stand out. There are also a large number of petroglyphs, that is, stones with engravings and representations of the daily life of its ancient inhabitants that you can admire up close.

Continuing along this interesting route, reaching the limits of the state of Tabasco you will find the archaeological site of La Venta. It was an ancient Olmec ceremonial center and the place where the colossal stone heads were initially found, these are now located at the Parque de la Venta (La Venta Park) in Villahermosa, as well as various utensils and ceremonial objects. In this place you will see the oldest pyramid in Mesoamerica, which is made of clay, you will learn more about the history of the Olmecs. An interesting fact is that this is believed to be the first place where the cocoa drink was tasted.

Once in the state of Veracruz, you can visit Coatzacoalcos. Here you will discover that life goes by calmly in front of the Gulf of Mexico, although it is one of the most important oil ports in the country. Visit its museums to learn more about the Olmec culture, enjoy some of its beaches and stroll along the boardwalk at sunset, it is always full of music and a good atmosphere.
