In the heart of Sierra Tarahumara is located the majestic Copper Canyon, so-called because of the coppery tone of its walls. They are longer and deeper than even the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The canyon’s imposing copper walls safeguard legends, the traditions of the Raramuri or Tarahumara who maintain their ancestral way of life. They have lived in these canyons for centuries and their lives are intertwined with the mountains.

The canyon will surprise you with its forests. Several activities are available, including camping and bird watching, or simply admire the contrasting vegetation along the way. The ever changing tones and shapes of the highlands appear to melt into the horizon. Do not forget to take a trip on El Chepe, the train that runs along the Copper Canyon starting in Chihuahua and ending in Los Mochis, crossing tunnels and the great Sierra Madre.
