Comitán de Domínguez

This "Magical Town" was once inhabited by Tzeltales and was named Balun Canan. Comitan is a warm village that retains its pre-Hispanic roots and mixes them with its Spanish history by displaying fantastic viceregal architecture. Experience these combinations as you walk through the vestiges of its Mayan heritage. The town’s colonial churches are surrounded by lakes and waterfalls with spectacular shades that sparkle in the sunlight because of the minerals, vegetation and the way the sunlight penetrates the water. If peace had a sound it would be like the eight waterfalls of the Chiflon falls as the breeze blows and combines with the trill of the cicadas.
