The Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Talpa is the most important site in the town, since it is the destination of millions of pilgrims who visit their patron saint to thank her for the favors she grants them.
It was finished in 1782 and its facade is made of gray quarry; it has an atrium crowned by an arch with vegetable details that welcome the place where this beloved virgin is located. The tops of its steeple are triangular covered with tiles, this is a good reference since they seem to watch over Talpa de Allende from the sky.
The figure of the Virgin del Rosario de Talpa was modeled by Tarascan indigenous people from Michoacán and was transported to this place in 1585 to finally become a symbol of the temple she inhabits and of the city.
October 7 is celebrated the Virgin del Rosario, so it is one of the dates in which more pilgrims visit Talpa de Allende, as it organizes a great celebration. If you want to know more about the Virgin and all the traditions that happen around her you can visit its museum.
