Located on an ancient volcano, this peculiar cemetery dates from the mid-19th century. Small in size, barely reaching 40 meters in length (131 ft), it’s great in historical value since it preserves five mausoleums in quarry where the remains of famous and important San Sebastián del Oeste personalities rest.
Hidden under the moss, tombstones stand out as reminders of rich and powerful people's eccentricities at the time of being buried. Nevertheless, they have turned into a kind of mausoleum to which all its inhabitants and visitors can go today without restriction.
Postcards as fascinating as mysterious give the setting formed in the Panteón Antiguo. By the way, it had the misfortune of being forgotten for decades, resurfacing nowadays as a funeral architecture jewel and one of main attractions of this charming Jalisco’s Pueblo Magico.
