Sierra del Tigre (Tiger mountains)

Mazamitla

This natural corridor is part of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. It is an extensive wooded area of almost six thousand acres that houses nine towns in Jalisco, including Mazamitla. Its main attractions are tours -on foot, horseback, ATV's, and guided safaris- to admire landscapes bathed by waterfalls and flanked by the Fuego and Nevado de Colima volcanoes. On clear days, the view may extend as far as Lake Chapala.

In order to immerse yourself in the beauty of El Tigre, hire the services of expert guides. We assure you that these experts have designed their tours in order to provide fantastic, camera-ready experiences, since they know how to locate the highest point of the corridor, which sits 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level. You may very well manage to capture different birds flying around and, with any luck, a wildcat passing by. This immense forest was baptized as the Sierra del Tigre (Tiger Mountain) due to frequent sightings of this feline, which was often mistaken by locals to be a “small tiger”.

There is also a tour available to visit the nine mountain towns, including La Manzanilla de la Paz and its El Chiflón Dam, which allows for sport fishing, and Valle de Juarez, with its French-style architecture that contrasts with the mountainous landscape. Come nightfall, legends are told over bonfires and celestial bodies are admired.

Now you know that the best way to enjoy the Sierra del Tigre is by renting a cabin in Mazamitla. We guarantee that contact with nature will make your vacation an unforgettable experience.
