Lagos de Moreno

The Historic Downtown of Lagos de Moreno is quite literally a world treasure, given that it was declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2010.

This is just one of the many reasons you simply must visit sites such as the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Our Lady of the Assumption), which has a facade engraved in pink sandstone, making it one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture.

Take a break under the trees in the Rinconada de las Capuchinas, where you can appreciate the Antiguo Convento de las Capuchinas (Former Convent of the Capuchin Sisters) Mudejar-style facade and take a tour of the Casa de la Cultura (Cultural Center) and the Casa Museo Agustín (the Agustín Rivera House Museum). Don't forget to drop in at the Museo de Arte Sacro (Museum of Sacred Art) and browse the invaluable collection of paintings, sculpture and textiles.

During your stroll through Lagos de Moreno, don’t miss Puente Lagos (Lagos Bridge)—which crosses a river with the same name— just 15 minutes from the Historical Center. In 1860, people had to pay to cross this bridge, so they preferred to cross for the free-but-risky side underneath the bridge.

This is why there is still a plaque there with the inscription “This bridge was made in Lagos and must be crossed over”, which was put up by that time authorities.
