Chapala Lake

Guadalajara

Looking at the sunset, taking a picture of Chapala's view, walking by the dock or connecting with nature, are just some of the activities that you should try in Lago de Chapala (Chapala Lake), the largest lake in Mexico, a little love place and one of the most important attractions in Guadalajara.

The lake is located in the municipality of Chapala and it is surrounded by volcanic cones and domes. This place offers many natural attractions and different activities for families.

It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and clothes to take a walk on its malecon, to enjoy the sight of the lake and to observe the imposing Mountain Range.

While you go for a walk downtown, enjoy the typical unique flavored sherbets that the tenants offer and visit the handcrafts, clothes and shoes market.

Enjoy and explore the beautiful architecture of the historical buildings that honor Chapala such as Parroquia de San Francisco de Asis, the City Hall, the old railroad station, which is currently a museum and the Casa de Braniff.

One of the main activities you can do is take a tour by boat to go all over the Ribera de Chapala, or maybe to Isla de los Alacranes (Island of the Scorpions) which according to huichol community, represents three mythological cycles related to the dawn of mankind.

The first one talks about the Sun creation and deer hunting in Wirikuta; the second cycle talks about deluge, corn creation and mankind origin. The third cycle is about Christ, money and some other mestizo elements.

When you go back to the dock, look at the marvelous sunset view that this little Tapatio corner offers to you.
