Las Peñas Ecological Park

Ciudad Guzmán

If you go to the Canal street to the west of Zapotlan El Grande, almost at the outskirts of Ciudad Guzmán, you will find the entrance to this iconic park that is called that way thanks to its enormous rocks that are located at the hillside.

This is the perfect place for practising trekking, rappel or bird watching. You will have one of the best views in the city and of the Nevado de Colima. You will be able to spot some waterfalls as well that will surely leave you speechless.

If you are fond of exploring, don’t lose the chance of visiting the vestiges of an old windmill that was built in the middle of the XVIII century. Here you will find two natural water wells, which are two of the biggest attractions of the park.

Don’t forget to visit the rocky formation of “The Sacred Stones of Sochule '', also known as “Los Compadres”, named like this because they resemble two gigant faces. According to a local legend these two rocks used to be a princess and a warrior that in order to calm the volcano's fury, threw themselves at it.
