Temple of the Immaculate Conception

Amatitlán

The history of Amatitán is told by walking through its streets, large houses and even churches, the most important being the Templo de la Inmaculada Concepción (Temple of the Immaculate Conception). This neoclassical-style building —like many other religious temples in the region—is quarry made; the tiles that dress the niches in its towers are one of its peculiarities.

Pay attention at the works embodied in the temple's dome—they represent Saint Matthew, Saint Luke, Saint John and Saint Mark.

At different points in Amatitán there are some monumental crosses known as Santa Cruz. One is quarry made and two meters high. Two more are over three meters high, one plus is outside the Templo de la Inmaculada Concepción. Another, 11 meters, looks after the town from the top of the same name hill.
