Museum of Photography

Pachuca

Set in a part of the formerly San Francisco convent, is the Museum of Photography, inaugurated 36 years ago. Its walls house countless images captured by lens geniuses such as Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Graciela Iturbide and Pedro Meyer, as well as archives that are the best documentary sample in the country’s history such as the Casasola which recorded decisive events in Mexico from 1900 to 1970.

To give you an idea, the popular image of a “Soldadera en el Estribo de un Ferrocarril” (Soldadera on the Stirrup of a Railway) belongs to the Casasola archive, as well as thousands of gelatin silver photographs that captured the Revolution movement and the national way of life at the beginning of the 20th century. You can also see what the photographic studios were like, the dimensions of a camera and its imposing presence.

Currently you’ll find reproductions of two centuries old images such as Empress Carlota portrait, which are presented renewed with the help of new digitization processes and state-of-the-art printers. You can tour the museum on your own or request a guided tour in advance. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
