Huichapan

The heart of Huichapan, Hidalgo, is El Jardin Central (The Central Garden) where people gather after their workday to catch up or simply take a break under the shade of the trees. There you will find the monument dedicated to General Julián Villagrán, a hero of the Independence.

A few steps away you will see El Palacio Municipal (Municipal Palace) with its arches reminiscent of Mudejar architecture and the balconies that decorate the facade. This building was built in 1889 and the quarry that was used was extracted near the town.

And speaking of indispensable sites in your itinerary, don't forget to include a visit to La Capilla de Nuestro Señor del Calvario (Our Lord of Calvary's Chapel), where there is a Christ carved in wood dating from 1750.

In this area, there are other religious temples like La Parroquia de San Mateo Apóstol ( Saint Matthew the Apostle Parish), patron saint of Huichapan, with its very well preserved altarpieces and paintings about the Passion of Christ.

There is also La Capilla de la Virgen de Guadalupe (The Chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe), where you can appreciate the work of the quarry's artisans, who carved both the facade and the enormous cross in the atrium.
