Barranca de Aguacatitla (Aguacatitla's Ravine)

Huasca de Ocampo

In this piece from Hidalgo part of Reserva de la Biosfera Metztitlán (Metztitlán Biosphere Reserve), you can see the continuation of the basaltic prism system that has made Huasca de Ocampo famous for tourists, located just 30 minutes away.

Here you can appreciate three types of forest: oak, scrub and tropical. This benefits the area and offers visitors the opportunity to perform various activities within the canyon. The most popular is the canopy circuit, made up of six zip lines. To get to the platforms, you have to walk through groves of peaches and oranges.

There is also a canyon where you can jump over waterfalls and slide down natural stone slides. Something unexpected is that the landscape is delimited by trees covered with Spanish moss, which has the characteristic of growing in places where the air is completely pure.

In the middle of the Barranca de Aguacatitla (Aguacatitla's Ravine) the remains of an old thermoelectric plant are found. Retired workers created an alternative tourism cooperative, for camping and navigating the old regulating pond. At night, they take you on walks to observe the night sky, while visiting various viewpoints. They also offer rappelling down the prisms and exploring bats inhabited caves.
